Biopsy
|
| Usually two types used in dermatology practice, the SHAVE BIOPSY and the PUNCH BIOPSY. Both involve local anesthetic (can sting a bit) injected by a small needle. The small tissue sample is removed without pain, and the area is covered with antibiotic ointment, a bandage, and allowed to heal. The punch biopsy involves sutures, while the shave biopsy does not. The tissue sample is sent to a pathologist, a physician who examines tissues under the microscope to determine or confirm the dermatologist’s clinical judgment. Scarring is minimal. |
